Discernment Couples Counseling

What is discernment couples therapy?

Discernment Couples therapy is all about- figuring out the cycles you are stuck in & identifying what your next steps are in transitioning your relationship. You may feel stuck in a relationship you feel is not serving either one of you. Discernment Counseling is for when you want guidance to find a way forward with support and intention.

I am a Gottman L1 trained couples therapist with additional training in discernment counseling. I have worked with many couples on finding ways to transition their relationships amicably. There is so much grief in the transition of any relationship, finding support to separate well is a foundation for a more authentic future.

In discernment counseling we will spend 6-8 sessions together. This style allows for you to get to the nitty gritty of where your relationship is at, the hurt points, and what we can learn to live more authentically moving forward. Please note this is clinical therapy, not religious counseling.

What to expect

Session 1

We create a non-judgmental space where all partners can feel heard and respected. This safety is essential for honest dialogue and lasting change.

Session 2-3

We meet 1:1 to assess discernment factors of your relationship, current barriers, areas of growth and healing.

Session 4-5

We reflect on areas of personal development, relational strengths and barriers, and start to form a path towards your decision-making.

Session 6

We identify what pathway you both mutually agree upon. Whether that is to start the process of separation, or moving towards reconciliation. Then we can create a plan for which services will best serve your next steps.
