Couples counseling is for people who are looking to grow their relationship through self development, communication skills, pattern changes, and other personalized skills.
Discernment counseling is a short term therapy for identifying what the next step in your relationship is. Whether that is reconciliation, separation, divorce or boundary changes- this style of work is a good option for people who are unsure where they think their relationship is going. There is always the option to switch to couples therapy after discernment counseling.

I thought you'd never ask! I am a systemic-feminist therapist, meaning I believe the systems, cultures, roles, hierarchies, relationships, narratives, and many other things influence our mental health symptoms. I formulate personalized treatment plans based on client's individual needs and presenting problems.
To sum up my style in a few words: directive, inquisitive, thoughtful, creative & sprinkled with humor (when appropriate).
My style draws from modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy/Trauma Focused CBT, Cognitive Processing Therapy, DBT, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Health At Every SIZE (HAES), Attachment theory, Gottman couples, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Discernment, and several other areas of therapy. I strive to be culturally competent and affirming; and LGBTQIA+ ally, poly knowledgable!
I currently hold additional education credits in TF-CBT, Gottman Level 1 Couples Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Suicide Prevention Support, ADHD & Professionalism, and a previously Certified Grief Informed Professional Counselor.

Your session time is reserved exclusively for you. We require 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice will be charged the full session fee, as we are unable to fill that spot at the last minute.

The short answer is it is up to you! While I cannot see people within the same family or relationship for individual services, I can see friends of current clients. Keep in mind confidentiality protects from addressing other people’s treatment and I will not confirm if someone sees me for services.

I am currently paneled with Aetna, Premera, First Choice & Regence of WA which includes some BCBS plans. Aetna in Colorado and Idaho as well.
We do accept HSA & FSA cards that allow payment for mental health services.
If you don’t have any of these insurance options, or prefer the anonymity of private pay, we can also provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurer for potential reimbursement.
**Please note- couples therapy is not covered by most plans. Please contact your insurance provider to check or we can use an HSA or provide superbills as an additional option. Additionally, deductible based plans may require full fee until a deductible is met. You can always contact your insurance provider for details regarding your plan.
-
Private practice therapy is just that- private. Some people prefer to keep their services confidential by paying privately for services. Additionally, there is less potential for anyone to know about your therapy services unless specifically court mandated if you are paying privately.
Aside from the confidentiality benefits of private pay, insurance companies are constantly changing their acceptance of specific therapy services, which can be stressful for clients who want to have a consistent therapist. Or if a client is used to switching jobs every few years, the consistency of private pay also allows for continuity of care.
-
Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" explaining how much your medical care will cost. Before we begin working together, we will provide you with a clear, written estimate of our session fees so you never have to worry about hidden costs or surprise bills.
-
A super bill is an invoice of all paid sessions a client can submit to their insurance company directly for potential reimbursement.
The Vibe

That makes sense! It is hard to pin point a starting point for ourselves in therapy- that is part of my job. We can collaborate on different areas of your life you would like to address in therapy together.
-
Just like selecting any other person you employ in your wellness journey (doctors, clinicians, practitioners, etc) there are a lot of options out there!
Consider discussing with your therapist potential roadblocks or barriers to your treatment feeling supportive. Most therapists, including myself, are happy to provide additional referrals.
-
Koger Counseling is not a form of crisis counseling. Therefor for people experiencing domestic violence, intimate partner violence, or active self harm we provide local referrals so you can get support that is available 24/7.

Therapy is not just for “big” life events. It is a space to continually meet yourself with grace, kindness and curiosity as you discover more of your authentic self.
While therapy is helpful for “big” life events (whatever you label as big, it’s big being on this earth in general), there are many topics and thought patterns that your therapist can bring up to identify areas for self development.
-
That is okay! If you are reading this, then I’m glad you’re here. “Flirting” with the idea of going to therapy is step 1- just like with anything else we may consider starting in life.
If you are at this step, then connecting with different therapists, identifying your budget for therapy, and seeing what services best fit your current needs is a good way to dip your toe into the idea of starting therapy.
When you’re feeling ready to contact us we’ll be here!
